General Information:
The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as XTBG) was established in 1959. As a comprehensive national research institution under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, XTBG integrates scientific research, species conservation, science education, and eco-tourism. The garden covers an area of 1,125 hectares and houses over 17,400 living plant species. In response to national biodiversity conservation priorities and to advance the development of the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, XTBG plans to consolidate existing research and species conservation resources by establishing the “Research Center for Ex situ Conservation of Tropical Plants (in preparation)”. The Center is now globally recruiting one Director regardless of the country of origin. We warmly welcome top scholars with corresponding profile and that are dedicated to tropical biodiversity conservation to join our very international staff group.
Qualifications/Requirements:
1. Demonstrate strong academic integrity, teamwork, and organizational management skills;
2. Hold a Ph.D. degree and the title of Professor (or equivalent), with experience in serving as a director of a relevant institution or department. 3. Achieve internationally recognized academic accomplishments in botany, ecology, conservation biology, or related interdisciplinary fields; 4. Possess extensive research and management experience in biodiversity conservation or ex-situ plant conservation; 5. Be in good health and able to work full-time on-site.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the development strategy, disciplinary structure, and team building of the ex-situ conservation center;
2. Lead the organization of tropical plant ex-situ conservation and research, establishing a world-class platform for tropical plant ex-situ conservation; 3. Focus on national strategic needs and the core mission of the National Botanical Garden, organize and implement major scientific and technological projects linked to the national strategic needs; 4. Able to lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary scientific research team composed of doctoral researchers and project leaders (PIs), design and implement scientific research directions and projects, and promote the application and translation of scientific research results and interdisciplinary cooperation. 5. Promote collaboration and high-level academic/scientific exchanges with organizations such as the Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and the International Conservation Collaboration of Chinese Botanical Gardens (ICCBG) to enhance the Center's international influence, but not limited to those organizations; 6. Detect, cultivate, train, and recruit high-level talent to build an internationally representative and competitive research team to tackle above roles.
