General Information:
The department is seeking a broadly trained plant scientist to offer undergraduate coursework at a primarily undergraduate institution. General Botany is a foundational course in our undergraduate entry sequence and would be one of the primary teaching responsibilities associated with the position. In addition the ability to teach a Local Flora course, focusing upon plant diversity found in our region, is an essential characteristic.
Qualifications/Requirements:
PhD in botany, plant science, or related fields of biology. ABD will be considered.
Responsibilities:
Teach 24 load hours of course work per academic year (fall/spring). Teaching responsibilities include a 100 level General Botany course, required for all biology majors, and course in Local Flora dedicated towards students in the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation program and General Biology majors, that includes significant amount of field identification. Additional teaching responsibilities may include a course in Evolution, Plant Anatomy, Plant Physiology, the senior capstone Seminar course, or other courses depending upon the background and experiences of the candidate. Progression on the tenure track will also involve demonstration of service to the department, university, and the student body. A significant portion of the service component for this position is associated with management of the departmental teaching greenhouse and herbarium. Development of scholarly activity, especially work that involves undergraduate or MS students, is also expected.
