General Information:
Ironwood is looking for experienced field botanists to provide technical botanical and ecological resource support for our projects. The job involves primarily field duties, including acting as a field lead and assisting with project coordination. This job involves working both independently and leading a team on small to large projects. The job will use botanical expertise to support project needs and field efforts responding to project management and client needs. The successful candidates will regularly travel throughout the Southwest (primarily southern California and Nevada) to complete fieldwork for various projects requiring botanical knowledge. The successful candidate does not need to be located in Redlands, CA. As long as they can regularly travel to and from field locations in southern California and Nevada given a standard mobilization/demobilization compensation, there is flexibility in where the candidate is based.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• A background in botany, fieldwork, and experience with botanical resources. • Experience with ArcGIS and GPS technologies, including digital data collection applications, for largescale biological resource inventories. • Ability to independently identify project flora. • Knowledge of FESA, CESA, CEQA, and NEPA and relevant experience with a variety of project types including conservation & research, development, water and other utilities, renewable energy, transportation, and defense. Education and/or Experience: • Minimally bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in the field of Biology, Botany, Ecology, or Environmental Science + 8 years of botany-related field experience; Or M.S./Ph.D. + 3 years of botany-related field experience. Computer Skills: • ArcGIS Design software • iForms, Field Maps, Survey123 applications • MS Excel spreadsheet and MS Word software Other Qualifications: • Excellent communication and writing skills are required. • Be detail-oriented, self-motivated, work well leading a team and independently, and have a strong work ethic. Physical Demands: • Candidate should be able to work long days in rugged terrain and potentially in inclement weather in locations away from common necessities. • Candidate should be able to hike on foot in rough, outdoor terrain. • Candidate should be comfortable navigating unfamiliar roads in 4wd terrain.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, with a chance of other smaller duties assigned:
Assists with oversight, and leads botanical resource studies, data processes and contributes to reporting by performing the following: • Focused surveys for special status species • Complete floristic inventories • Ability to independently identify plants in the field using dichotomous keys and botanical knowledge • Ability to follow field protocols with a high level of detail • Lead field teams during surveys and guide the team and oversee collection of high-quality data • Perform biological resource studies, data processes, and reporting, if required • Collaborate with the project manager to complete data and literature searches when needed • Lead reconnaissance level surveys and habitat assessments for special status species • Complete vegetation mapping, if required • Complete data analysis and impact calculations, if required • Assess work sites for compliance with resource agency permits, when needed • Maintain professional relationships at the field level • Provide accurate documentation and data collection, when required Provides support to senior project managers by performing the following: • Learn and maintain expert knowledge of local flora • Learn and maintain up to date knowledge of regulations, requirements, and best practices • Collect data that would aid in the consultation of botanical/ecological related matters or compliance matter
