Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in biological sciences field. - Experience in managing life science collections, especially Herbarium specimens. Preferred Qualifications - Research experience in specimen-based research in the areas of ethnobotany, herbarium genomics, phylogenetics, or historical ecology.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
60% Research curator (24 hrs/wk) - Develop a vigorous research program through external funding. - Foster the growth and use of collections. - Mentor students in research in cooperation with CoSE Biological Sciences. 30% Collections manager (12 hrs/wk) - Set the vision and strategic plan for all collections in the Life Science Division at Museum, with emphasis on the Ray J. Davis Herbarium. - Seek funding for resources to achieve strategic plan. - Manage daily operations in the Herbarium. - Oversee student and volunteer assistants in preparing, cataloguing, and databasing specimens. - Manage Herbarium database, with the help of IT staff, and its integration with external natural history databases, e.g. Consortium of Pacific Northwest Herbaria, iDigBio, GBIF. 10% Museum service (4 hrs/wk) - Collaborate with Museum staff on projects, exhibits, education programs, public lectures.
