General Information: The College of Science and the School of Biological Sciences at SIU Carbondale seek applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor specializing in developmental biology with expertise in the evolution of plant form. Departments and Schools of the College offer Ph.D., M.S., B.S. and B.A. degrees in various specializations.
Qualifications/Requirements: Applicants must have earned a doctorate in the Life Sciences or a closely related field, with preference for a specialty area related to the applications of plant developmental biology. Applicants must have significant research experience in the evolution of form and function, and be interested in solving emerging problems. Evidence of research excellence documented through publications and/or funding is required. The candidate must have the potential to develop a vibrant externally funded research program, and the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, and teach courses in plant diversity, anatomy and/or morphology. This position is responsive to societal needs for more expertise in plant biology, which can be met through research, education and training in plant developmental biology. This position will bridge the gap between theory and application in plant biology, with an anticipated research program competitive for funding through NSF, NIH, and USDA, etc.
