General Information: Become part of a research team working on ethnobotany and traditional ecological knowledge for Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota. An assistantship is available for a master’s level graduate student in the area of Applied Ecology and Conservation Biology or Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. The assistantship is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Frostburg State University ( is located in the Appalachian highlands of western Maryland. Enrollment includes approximately 5,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. The main campus covers 260 mostly forested acres within the small town of Frostburg (population 7,500). The local region is rich in both history and outdoor activities. Nearby recreational areas include Nature Conservancy Lands, State Forests, and State Parks. Exceptional outdoor activities include camping, boating, swimming, hiking, skiing, fishing, and hunting.
Qualifications/Requirements: Students should have an undergraduate degree in biology, wildlife, fisheries, environmental science, forestry, botany, or other related areas. Admission requirements include a 3.0 GPA and 300 (V+Q) GRE score.
Responsibilities: Students will be enrolled in 9-12 credit hours per semester and complete a 20-hour a week assistantship assignment.
